In 2007, a small group of writers, readers and publishers got together to talk about how difficult it is for a new writer to get published. Like everything else these days, publishing is 'market-driven' and the companies that control that market are only interested in products they can sell quickly and in very high numbers.

In our view, well-written books are more art than commodity and deserve to be published on a more individual basis to reflect this. So we set out to bring together the artists who create the work and an audience who would appreciate the quality of the craft.

In addition, we knew, from our own experience, the importance to writers of receiving objective appraisal of our writing to help us improve. This meant establishing a supportive community of writers and readers who would be prepared to offer constructive feedback to each other, thus helping us all achieve even more.

The first step was to find the writers who were out there somewhere but 'invisible'. In association with Baineth Publications, we set up the short story competition to unearth the talent. On top of this, as this website keeps growing, we will incorporate more opportunities for writers and readers to give and receive feedback and to 'bring more new writing to light'.

Invisible Ink is a non-profit organisation and all the work is done by volunteers. Our only funding comes from sales of the competition anthologies and any donations we receive.
